Town-hall Palace (XV-XVIII century) | |||||||||||||||
|
The first project for a new town-hall palace, to celebrate the recognition of the town of Sarzana in 1465, belonged to a certain Antonio da Lucca. The Reinassance imprint is due to the project of Giuliano da Maiano (1473) with whom went on the construction of the palace thanks to the Florentines. At the beginning of the ‘500 the town passed under the domain of the Bank of St. George and the palace was finished by Antonio Roderio who brought essential changings that remind us the genoan shapes (Doria Palace), especially in the courtyard, on the walls of which we find the coats of arms of the Podestà family who ruled the town, together with stony memories coming from different buildings of Sarzana that have been destroyed. It stands out the 16th century funeral monument dedicated to Benedetto Celso, which comes from St. Domenico church, that it was where now there is the Impavidi theatre. |
